Rymma's Story: Regaining Strength and Confidence at Home
Client: Rymma, 87
Setting: 1-to-1 Falls Prevention Home Exercise
Instructor: Cameron
When Rymma, a housebound 87-year-old, began to lose her strength and balance due to inactivity and a fear of falling, she and her family sought support through her GP at Grove Surgery. That referral led her to Your Health Norfolk.
“We had seen her confidence slipping after several falls. The fear of moving became overwhelming.”
Through a referral pathway from Active Now, Rymma began receiving six in-home sessions led by Cameron, our specialist Postural Stability Instructor. The programme included personalised exercises, a resistance band, and an exercise DVD to help her stay active between sessions.
“Having the home exercise DVD helped me build a routine. It made me feel safe and motivated.”
With each session, Rymma’s confidence grew. She gained strength in her legs, improved her balance, and could now walk around the house more comfortably. Outdoors, she has progressed to walking for 10 minutes while pushing her wheelchair, something she had not done in months.
“She has almost completely stopped dragging her feet when she walks. That alone has reduced her fall risk dramatically.”
Cameron built a strong, trust-based relationship that made the sessions not only productive but enjoyable. The tailored support and compassionate delivery made all the difference.
“We are so grateful. The whole experience has been life-changing for Rymma, physically and emotionally.”
